There is nothing quite like the first day of school in Friendswood ISD! Today, our campuses were filled with smiling faces, hugs, high-fives and plenty of excitement as students and staff kicked off the 2026–2027 school year.
We loved seeing our Mustangs back in classrooms, reconnecting with friends, meeting their teachers and beginning another year of learning, growing and making memories together. 💙🤍

Westwood Elementary Update #6: Environmental Testing & Official Start Date – August 14, 2026
We are pleased to share an important update with our Westwood families.
The District has received verbal confirmation from qualified third-party environmental professionals that all 26 areas tested at Westwood Elementary met air quality standards across the campus.
With this confirmation, we can now officially announce that the first day of school for Westwood Elementary students will be Monday, August 24. 💙
Today’s update also includes information regarding the return of teachers and staff, the first day of school, missed instructional days, and next steps as work continues at Westwood.

For 10 years, Under the Oaks has been about more than kicking off another school year. It is about bringing together the people who make Friendswood ISD such a special place to learn, work and belong.

Westwood Elementary Update #5: Environmental Testing & Next Steps – August 13, 2026
As part of our commitment to keeping Westwood families informed, we are sharing our fifth campus update.
Remediation and corrective work continue to move forward at Westwood Elementary, and environmental testing is scheduled to take place today, Thursday, August 13.
At this time, the District continues to anticipate welcoming Westwood students back on Monday, August 24. This remains an anticipated start date and is dependent upon the results of environmental testing and the successful completion of any remaining work necessary for the building to be confirmed safe for occupancy.
We anticipate receiving testing results on Friday and will provide our next update to families on Saturday, August 15.

The Pierce family helped us begin the morning by leading the pledges, followed by Superintendent Thad Roher sharing a message centered around the Friendswood ISD brand and what it means to represent our district, our community and the Mustang family.
Our talented Fine Arts students also gave us a special sneak peek of a collaborative performance that brought together students from across our programs. 🎶✨ It was the perfect reminder of who we are here for and why we do what we do every day.
Our staff is energized, excited and ready for another incredible year in Friendswood ISD!

At tonight’s Friendswood ISD Board Meeting, we had the opportunity to recognize and officially welcome some of the newest members of the FISD family! Each brings valuable experience, leadership and enthusiasm to our district, and we are excited for the impact they will make on our students and staff.

⭐ Jaime Louviere | Career & Technical Education Coordinator
Jaime brings 19 years of experience in education, including 14 years in educational leadership with a focus on CTE. Her experience expanding career pathways, building business and industry partnerships, and creating opportunities for students will be an incredible asset to FISD.
⭐ Allee Schumacher | Communications Specialist
Allee earned her degree in Communications from the University of Houston and her MBA from Point University. She spent nine years in marketing with Chick-fil-A before moving into public education communications with Pearland ISD. She has already hit the ground running and made a positive impact in FISD!
⭐ Alyssa Bain | FHS Theatre Director
Alyssa brings nine years of experience in education and earned her degree in Theatre Education from the University of North Texas. We look forward to the creativity, experience and leadership she will bring to the FHS theatre program.
⭐ Katie Fort | Friendswood Education Foundation Marketing & Events
A Texas Tech University graduate with a degree in Marketing, Katie brings experience in both marketing and event coordination. We are excited for the creativity and enthusiasm she will bring to the Friendswood Education Foundation and its work supporting FISD students and staff.
⭐ Alexis Greer | Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
Alexis brings 20 years of experience in education and earned her master’s degree in School Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Most recently, she served as Assistant Director of Special Education in Fort Bend ISD. Her experience and expertise will be a valuable resource for our students and staff.
⭐ Heidi Eberhardt | Special Education Evaluation & Compliance
Heidi brings 24 years of experience and earned her master’s degree in School Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Most recently, she served as a School Psychologist and District Behavior Specialist in Pasadena ISD. We are excited for the knowledge and support she will bring to FISD.
⭐ Amber Moore | Head Boys & Girls Track Coach
Amber joins Friendswood High School to lead both the boys and girls Mustang track programs. She brings seven years of experience in education and will also serve students in the classroom as a Spanish teacher. We are excited for the leadership and dedication she will bring to our student-athletes and the FHS track and field program!
🐾 And, of course, Elle Woods | Future FISD Therapy Dog!
With a name as fabulous as her personality, Elle is preparing for her future role bringing comfort, encouragement and plenty of tail wags to students and staff throughout the district. We have a feeling she may quickly become one of FISD’s most popular new hires! 💕

Today we shared an important update regarding Westwood Elementary.
Kinder Camp, Meet the Teacher, and the first day of school at Westwood Elementary will be delayed. All other campuses will start school on August 18th.
At this time, a new start date for Westwood has not been determined. We will continue to communicate regularly and share updates as additional information becomes available.
We understand this is not the way anyone envisioned starting the school year, and we are grateful for your patience and support as we work through this.

Returning Friendswood ISD families can now complete Online Verification for the 2026-27 school year through Skyward Family Access. ✔️
Before you begin, make sure you have:
✅ Your Skyward Family Access login information
✅ Two proofs of residency ready to upload:
• Proof of ownership (tax statement, deed, lease, or mortgage statement)
• Proof of utility (current water, gas, or electric bill)

Last weekend, the Friendswood High School Wranglerettes welcomed dancers from across the region for a one-of-a-kind College Prep Intensive! 💙
Open to the public, dancers trained with collegiate dancers from Baylor, UT, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and SFA, learning not only choreography and technique, but also what it really takes to dance at the next level through interactive Q&A sessions.
A huge thank you to Wranglerette Director Courtney Kranz, the amazing collegiate instructors, and every dancer who spent the day growing, learning, and dreaming big. ⭐
