FISD and the Chamber of Commerce Hold Inaugural State of the District
Thad Roher giving the State of the District speech

Friendswood ISD and the Friendswood Chamber of Commerce came together on Tuesday, Sept. 7 to host the first State of the District event at New Hope Church in Friendswood. Approximately 150 people were in attendance.

Upon arrival, attendees were able to converse with student groups from Friendswood High School including Ready Set Teach, INCubatorEDU, Health and Biomedical Science, Robotics, Rocketry, Business, Culinary Arts, FFA and Floral Design. Also representing the District at booths were College and Career Readiness and the Friendswood ISD Education Foundation.

Superintendent Thad Roher was the keynote speaker. He began his speech with a nod to the District’s theme for the year: legacy. He discussed how those who came before and those who are here now have worked to build a legacy of supporting students’ education. Roher then took attendees on a symbolic tour, via images and videos, to show them a peek inside the walls of all six campuses. They were able to see everything from hydroponic gardens and virtual reality goggles to the brand-new rocketry program and Culinary Arts’ Cake Wars.

After showing the audience what is currently happening in FISD, Roher then showed them what lies ahead with future renovations that come as a result of the passed 2020 Bond.

“[The State of the District] was a great opportunity for me to showcase just a taste of what is going on in Friendswood ISD,” Roher said. “I hope to resume this event for many years to come so we can continue to strengthen the relationship between the District and the community.”

Event sponsors were Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery, Allstate Insurance – Judy Wiggins Agent, AMOCO Federal Credit Union, College of the Mainland, Elite Green Team ChemDry, Ellis Moon Orthodontics, HomeTown Bank of Friendswood, Houston Methodist Clear Lake Hospital, JJ’s Car Wash, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and Traci Marlow Designs.

The presentation given can be viewed on FISD’s YouTube page.
